What are the goals of the OSU Bioinformatics Certification Program (OBCP)? 1. To organize and implement a cross-disciplinary graduate program, leading to a Certification in the area of Bioinformatics 2. To recruit high-quality and motivated graduate students that would otherwise attend different Universities for graduate studies 3. To provide an improved infrastructure for basic and applied research in information and data What is Bioinformatics? Bioinformatics is "the analysis of biological information using computers and statistical techniques; the science of developing and utilizing computer databases and algorithms to accelerate and enhance biological research." Who is involved this program? The program was initiated in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. As the existing Director of the Bioinformatics Core Facility, Dr. Peter Hoyt is managing the effort to improve the Informatics research infrastructure of OSU. However, the contributions from EVERY Department and Faculty member are essential for the Program success. Faculty interested in Bioinformatics were identified and a group has been assembled to implement a curriculum that is acceptable to the Graduate School and Board of Regents. Faculty developing the program are listed in the participants' page [coming soon]. The Program Progress Page lists current events. To see preliminary diagrams of the organization and administration of the OBCP, look at the Program Structure page. |
